Palawan Chamber Choir

Errol Salazar Gallespen, Chorleiter

english version:
Palawan Chamber Choir
Success is indeed the fruit of hard labor mixed with patience, determination and solidarity founded on strong faith in God. All these factors have contributed to the success of the Palawan Chamber Choir. Today, it remains strong as an organization that seeks to provide opportunities to young individuals with unparalleled musical talents, discipline and commitment to serve the Lord.
It all started as a school-based performing group of the Holy Trinity College in the late 1980s. Popularly known in the campus as the Holy Trinity College Grand Chorale, the group consequently gained recognition in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, and in the entire country because of the exceptional quality of their performances. Subsequently, their commitment to excel in choral music surpassed boundaries and races, enabling the group to venture into performances abroad in the 1990s. From then on, the portals of opportunity in the local, national and international level opened up to this talented group. To date, they have performed in Singapore, Thailand, Germany, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Spain and the United States of America. Amidst the resounding applause of their audiences, the group never forgets to give credit to the person who originally organized and supported them, Sr. Teresita Medalle, O.P., Ph.D.
With a mission to help poor-but-deserving and talented students, Sr. Teresita Medalle organized this school-based performing group. The fundamental privilege of a bona fide member of the group was free tuition fee from the scholarship program of the Holy Trinity College. Eventually, the development of the talents of the members of the chorale became unstoppable. But, in the late 1990s, Sr. Teresita had to retire due to health reasons. However, the group did not waver in the face of this obstacle. Instead, it even inspired them to soar to greater heights in their musical performance through the help and guidance of their new and gifted director, Mr. Errol S. Gallespen.
Having gained recognition practically the world over, the school-based performing group moved on to become a community of performers with a vision and mission bringing evangelization to all people. From the popularly known HTC Grand Chorale the groups name was changed to Palawan Chamber Choir. Consequentially, a more determined group emerged, having been molded by the challenges they faced when they had to learn to move on even in the absence of their mentor and prime supporter.
Today, the Palawan Chamber Choir has matured from merely being a singing group that aspired to provide entertainment to a group propelled by a mission to respond to the pastoral needs of the Palawan church and to be a herald of evangelization to the contemporary world.
As an organization, Palawan Chamber Choir is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-profit choral group based in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines. Last June 2004, twelve deserving members were enrolled through the scholarship program extended by Missio-Aachen, Germany.
In like manner, the group is now a partner of the social apostolate arm of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa, Palawan helping to facilitate community-based programs for the indigenous peoples of Palawan and other sectors of society, like women.
The Palawan Chamber Choir members constantly face the challenge of excellence as they continue to gain recognition and appreciation around the world for the uniqueness of their songs and performances. With this challenge, coupled with their new vision to become apostolic bearers of Christs mission, they responsively commit to make a difference in a complex and fragmented world.

Errol Salarzar Gallespen, Conductor
Errol Gallespen had an early start in music that at the age of 11, he had already made his mark by winning in the Regional Yamaha Junior Electron Festival. He graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1986 with a degree in Music major in Piano. Errol is also a choir master extraordinaire with a Rey T. Paguio Memorial Award for Best Conductor to his name given to him during the 1999 National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA). As such, he worked with various companies, schools and church choirs. He is best known of being at the helm of Palawan Chamber Choir based in Puerto Princesa, which did eight international tours to Singapore, Thailand, Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain and the USA under his inspired direction.

His dedication of honing the musical talents of his wards continues for he believes that his music will be kept alive if he shares it with them, and for as long as he has music, this will always be his greatest legacy.
